The most rain Merced County has seen so far this year is expected near the end of the week, weather officials report.

There is a chance of showers Wednesday night through Saturday but “most of rain looks like ti will be on Thursday and Friday,” said Brian Ochs, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Hanford.

On Thursday and Friday Merced could get 3/4 to an inch of rain, Ochs said, and Los Banos can expect about half an inch of rain.

There could be some localized flooding in poor drainage areas but widespread flooding is not anticipated, Ochs added.

“It’s a fair amount but not unusual, it’s just we haven’t had a lot of rain this year,” Ochs said.

High temperatures in Merced and Los Banos will consistently be around the mid 50s this week.

Tuesday will be the coldest night of the week throughout the county with lows around 33 degrees. Wednesday through Friday low temperatures will be in the low 40s.
