Kody Cardoza seems to have found his form.
The Los Banos sophomore entered Western Athletic Conference play trying to get his stuff back to where it was a season ago after an injury slowed the start of his season.
He battled through wins against Livingston and Ceres and then got back to dominating with a five-inning, no-hitter of Central Valley last week. Cardoza kept that momentum going on Tuesday afternoon, tossing a five-hit shutout in a 10-0 victory over Patterson.
Cardoza threw 63 of his 89 pitches for strikes, walking just one and striking out three.
The Tiger (14-0, 9-0 WAC) bats provided plenty of support, pounding out 10 runs on 10 hits. Six different batters drove in runs in the game, led by a base-clearing triple from Paulie Calderon that helped break the game open in a five-run sixth inning.
LB will take its perfect record to the Windemuth Easter Tournament for spring break.
Los Banos 3, Pacheco 2 in Los Banos –The Tigers seem to have put some of their nonconference struggles behind them, rising to the top of the WAC standings with a three-victory week, capped by a nail biter with the Panthers.
Kiara Azevedo limited Pacheco to two runs on three hits to earn the win. Savannah Valenzuela doubled twice and drove in two to help improve LB to 9-6 overall and 4-1 in the WAC.
Samantha Jacquez drove in Yosselin Castillo with both of the Panthers’ runs in the loss.
Los Banos 9, Patterson 0 in Los Banos – Quentin Barcellos’ 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles set the tone as the Tigers swept Patterson at home.
Los Banos didn’t drop a set in the match as it continues to battle for the league’s third and final playoff spot.
Allen Battle is headed to California Junior High School Rodeo State Finals in Red Bluff for the second straight year.
