A man suspected of robbing a convenience store early Sunday has been taken into custody, police said.
The Los Banos Police Department responded to a report of a robbery at Circle K, 547 W. I St., at 12:49 a.m. The store clerk told officers a man entered the business wearing a hooded sweatshirt, made threats and demanded money. The suspect, who was given an undisclosed amount of cash, fled the area on foot.
Police reviewed surveillance footage and identified Enrique Estrada, 31, of Los Banos. Officers went to Estrada’s residence and learned he left after an argument with family members. Estrada was found near the intersection of Pacheco Boulevard and Badger Flat Road. Police said Estrada was wearing the same clothing as during the robbery and was also in possession of a corkscrew he allegedly used as a weapon in the incident.
Estrada was arrested on suspicion of robbery and is being held at Merced County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Estrada was convicted of robbing the Los Banos Bank of America in 2005.
“Estrada served one-year in jail and five years’ probation for the bank robbery; he now faces 15-years in state prison, if convicted, for this crime,” Cmdr. Jason Hedden said.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Police Department at 827-7070, ext. 0.
