Friends and supporters of the Los Banos Library enjoyed wine, hors d’oeuvres, music and art on Oct. 22 at the annual Small Works of Art Sale, the biggest fundraiser for the library.
The Friends of the Los Banos Library society sold more than 130 tickets for the evening event, where participants are able to purchase small items of art from local artists. The pieces _ which this year included paintings, pottery, sculptures, photos and other creations _ can be no larger than 12” by 24”, said Colleen Menefee, the immediate past president of the group.
“It’s great to be able to support our local artists,” she said Thursday. “Everybody has a good time.”
This was the fourth year of the event, which has raised thousands of dollars for the library, helping it buy new bookcases, ergonomic chairs and other furniture and items to enhance the experience for everyone who visits.
“It’s just become a much more welcoming place” because of the Small Works of Art Sale, Menefee said.
This year’s sale featured works by more than 20 local artists, primarily from Los Banos and other cities in Merced County.
Menefee congratulated Patti Ryan for her hard work on the event. Ryan, who volunteers as the society’s “aesthetic person” is a big factor behind its success.
“She just makes our library a special place,” she said.
