The seventh annual Oktoberfest is taking place this month.
From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 21, the parent club at Our Lady of Fatima School will be hosting its first fund-raiser of the year, which will offer close to 200 beers to taste, said Kirk Carter, chairperson for the event.
“It’s a very unique festival,” Carter said. “It’s going to be a good tasting. If you find a beer you like, you are most likely able to go out and buy it at a grocery store.”
The festival, which includes a sausage, cheese and wine tasting, brought in over 1,000 people in 2012, and event organizers are hoping for even more this year.
“It turns out great every year,” Carter said. “It’s a really popular event within the community of Los Banos.”
Every year, the parent club aims to raise $200,000 to supply the school to help keep tuition down, he added.
“We have raised a lot of money and hope to do the same this year,” said Kym McAdam, treasurer of the parent club. “And hopefully have even more people come through the gates.”
Along with all the beer tasting, organizers have a red Italian sausage contest planned, and anyone in the community can enter. Tickets for the event are $40 in advance and $45 if purchased at the door. Additional food booths will be open and raffles will be going on during the event. Attendees must be 21 or older.
