Lorena Falasco Elementary School has planned to host a blood drive on Jan. 13 to honor Dos Palos' late Lia Brady, who died Dec. 10 after a two and a half year battle with cancer. The event will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the school. The event was planned prior to Lia's passing, and family members decided to continue the event for two reasons; one, it is an invaluable way to benefit the many other people in our community who receive blood, and two, many wanted to replenish the Central California Blood Center's blood bank supply after Lia was able to benefit from it so many times. Donorsmust be in good general health, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, be at least 17 (or 16 with parental consent), bring photo ID and social security number. Remember to eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours of donating. Donors can give blood every eight weeks. There is no upper age limit, so seniors are encouraged to donate. | Full Story

    Gooberville Gets Decorum

As in so much of society today, Gooberville suffered a breakdown in civil discourse. The Gooberville City Council meetings grew longer in length as citizen and politicians took to calling each other doodyheads and such things, getting into personal, vindictive arguments, rather than attempting to debate issues in a civil manner.

The Mayor asked the City Attorney to draft an ordinance to force people to behave in a civil manner. The City Attorney said, "Let me think about this. I will let you know soon."

As they entered Gooberville City Hall the night of the next Council meeting, the Mayor told the Attorney that he had not heard from the Attorney as promised. "Ah, I think you will find tonight that the matter will be resolved without need for a new ordinance."
