A man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly attempting to kidnap a girl after school, police said.

Jesse Benavidez, 23, was arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnapping, annoying or molesting a child and inducement of a minor. Benaidez is free on bond.

Cmdr. Jason Hedden said a female student was walking home from Los Banos Junior High when Benavidez approached her and tried to get her to leave with him. The girl, whose age was not released by authorities, ran to a nearby home and the police were called.

Hedden said Benavidez was arrested on the 1500 block of Canal Farm Lane, not far from the school.

“We encourage parents to remind their kids about the dangers of talking to strangers,” Hedden said.
