One arrested after high-speed chase

July 7, 2014

A high-speed chase ended Monday outside of Los Banos with one man in custody after he crashed his vehicle into a dry canal, the Merced County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The suspect, Eliazar Robles, age unavailable, was apparently wanted on a felony warrant charging him with methamphetamine possession, Deputy Delray Shelton said.

Detective Roberto Torres spotted a suspicious vehicle near Rodoni Dairy Farms on Highway 165 in Los Banos, Shelton said.

Deputies tried to stop the vehicle, but it took off at an undetermined “high rate of speed,” Shelton said.

A short time later, the vehicle crashed into the dry canal. It was not immediately clear whether Robles was injured, but, according to the California Highway Patrol website, at least one person suffered unspecified major injuries in the crash.
