A complaint about a restraining order violation led to a tense standoff involving SWAT officers before a Los Banos man surrendered Tuesday.

Police responded to the 100 block of North Santa Rita Avenue at 10:30 a.m. after a call from a woman who said she had a domestic violence restraining order against Ramiro Flores, 28, police said.

The woman, who was at work, told police she phoned home to check on her child and a 20-year-old baby sitter and Flores picked up the phone, police said.

Officers attempted to contact Flores for half an hour, but he would not answer the door or telephone, police said.

As a precaution, police asked for assistance from the Merced County SWAT team in removing the child from the residence. As members of the SWAT team began to arrive, Flores walked out of the front door and surrendered. No one was injured.

Flores was arrested on suspicion of violation of a domestic violence restraining order, child endangerment and violation of his probation conditions. He is being held at Merced County Jail without bail.

“Whenever we have information like this we will always take every precaution or utilize every resource in hopes that the incident will come to a peaceful resolution,” Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr. said.
