Police arrested a teenager in the theft of a bike a short time after the bike was reported stolen Wednesday afternoon.
Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr. said police responded to a report of a robbery in the area of Park Warren Drive and Pismo Way at 1:32 p.m.
The victim, a 17-year-old male, reportedly told police an Hispanic male juvenile wearing a red hat and a striped shirt approached him with a handgun and robbed him of his bicycle. The 17-year-old was not hurt during the incident.
According to police, about 10 minutes later Detective Sean Bayard stopped a 14-year-old male a short distance away, riding the victim’s bicycle and wearing the clothing described by the 17-year-old. Police did not find a weapon on the 14-year-old.
Police arrested the teen on suspicion of robbery. He was taken to Merced County Juvenile Hall.
Law enforcement commended the 17-year-old for reporting the incident quickly.
“The victim was able to provide a good description of the handgun and our detectives will continue to search for it. I urge anyone with information about this incident to contact the Police Department,” Reyna said.
