Gas leak in Los Banos forces evacuations

A private home builder apparently struck an unmarked gas line late Monday morning in Los Banos, forcing the evacuation of a neighborhood, the Los Banos Police Department reported.

The gas leak was reported at 10:55 a.m. in the 1100 block of Bellflower Way in Los Banos.

Exactly how many residents were required to leave their homes was not immediately clear.

Firefighters and a crew from Pacific, Gas & Electric were still on scene at 11:45 a.m., police said.

It was unclear when the line could be shut down and when residents may be allowed back home.

This is a developing story. More information will be reported as it becomes available.
