Two shootings

Enterprise Staff ReportsJune 13, 2014

The Los Banos Police Department is investigating two weekend shootings.

The first took place early Saturday on the 500 block of I Street, where police responded to shots being fired. The call came in at 12:39 a.m. Authorities believe a man fired the shots then fled the area running south on Sixth Street. Officers were able to locate and detain two men who were running a short distance from the scene. According to authorities, the men are connected to criminal street gangs but their specific involvement in the shooting is unknown.

The second shooting took place that evening on the 100 block of Santa Barbara Street where officers located evidence of a shooting. That incident was reported at 9:11 p.m. Because of the uncooperative nature of parties and witnesses reporting different versions of the event, details remain unclear.

Police are looking for a dark green or blue sedan and a gold colored Toyota Camry or Chrysler Sebring-type vehicle in connection with the Santa Barbara Street shooting. The involvement of the vehicles and the role the occupants may have played is still unclear, according to police. Authorities believe both shootings have ties to criminal street gangs, but do not appear to be connected. No injuries were reported in either incident.
