-- Four Pacheco High School band students are preparing to represent their school in a big way.
Each student has been chosen by a different organization for a special honor. One will perform in an honor band, another will take on state government and two will travel to different countries.
Senior baritone section leader Breanna Rodriguez, has been selected to participate on April 11 in the Future Farmers of America State High School Honor Band. Rodriguez is the first in Pacheco High School history to be chosen for this ensemble, said Brian Clark, music director.
Senior Violinist Branden Larragoitiy is set to participate in the Central California Youth Symphony orchestra and tour Europe over spring break.
Junior flute section leader Victoria Lima has been selected to be part of a student ambassadorship, People to People, that will be traveling to Australia over the summer. Lima will be traveling for two weeks along the Australian countryside on a trip that will include a visit to Sydney.
Junior trumpet section leader Ismael Orozco was selected for Boys State. Orozco will travel to California State University, Sacramento, in June representing Pacheco High School.
While at Boys State, Orozco will learn about the different aspects of local, county and state government.
“The band program at Pacheco High School is involved in a million different things and this is just the tip of the iceberg,” Clark said. “Each student did this on their own.”
To be considered, students applied or interviewed for the spot.
“These are the students that recently stood out and have gone above and beyond this year,” Clark said. “You have to do these things to understand what’s at the next level, and the next level is college.”
