Officials to head to Sacramento for Los Banos bypass support

January 24, 2014

The Merced County Association of Governments and representatives from Los Banos will attend a hearing in Sacramento on Thursday to ask for money for the Los Banos Bypass.

"We are the closest we've ever been to constructing the first phase," said Marjie Kirn, MCAG's executive director of MCAG.

Mayor Mike Villalta and Merced County Supervisor Jerry O’Banion will be giving a five-minute give the presentation regarding MCAG’s application for $50 million for segment 1 of the Los Banos bypass to the California Transportation Commission. The panel, which allocates funds for the construction of highway, passenger rail and transit improvements in California, will be conducting hearings for applicants for potential projects.

The list of Projects that will be approved by the transportation commission in February approves and adopted in March. The Transportation Commission has $1.26 billion for new projects.

If the commission funds the bypass, the first phase will be built in 2018.
