Trio arrested on gang, gun charges

Three men were held on a weapons charge after reports of a fight in the 700 block of West H Street last week.

A 29-year-old man told police that as he was parked in front of a store waiting for a friend, he was approached by three men. They asked what the male’s gang affiliation was during the Dec. 13 encounter, but he denied being a gang member, police said.

One of the men struck the victim’s vehicle several times, police said, shattering a window. The attackers were last seen leaving the area in a silver Jeep.

Several minutes later, an officer located the Jeep as it was leaving Los Banos and headed east on Pacheco Boulevard.

Police stopped the vehicle, and a subsequent search produced a loaded handgun. Placed under arrest on suspicion of participation in a criminal street gang and possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle were Jahudine Mendoza, 20, Marcelino Lara, 21, and Juan Jose Lara, 25. They are being held at the Los Banos Jail pending $100,000 bail.
