A vehicle stop this week for an equipment violation resulted in two arrests on weapons charges, police said.

At 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Sgt. Ivan Mendez stopped a black Mercedes in the 1300 block of Canal Farm Lane for an equipment violation. Police did not provide more information on the violation.

Mendez spoke with two of the vehicle’s occupants before removing them, along with three other adults and one juvenile, from the car.

Mendez reportedly discovered several open alcohol containers and a loaded handgun in the vehicle.

Police said Ruben Guzman and Manuel Delgado, both 24, were placed under arrest on suspicion of possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle and participation in a criminal street gang. Both were booked into the Los Banos Jail pending $50,000 bail.

“Our officers work very hard to take guns out of the hands of gang members because we believe this contributes to a safer community,” Reyna said.
