The Merced County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a gas station robbery that occurred last week.

Delray Shelton, a sheriff’s spokesman, said the Shell gas station at 12754 S. Highway 33 in Santa Nella was robbed Dec. 5 at 3:42 p.m.

Shelton said two Hispanic men entered the gas station’s convenience store wearing dark-colored hooded sweatshirts, with the hoods covering their heads. One of the men distracted the clerk by paying for candy while the other went behind the counter, Shelton said. He said the clerk was assaulted and the the men stole $200.

Shelton said the clerk was taken to Memorial Hospital Los Banos for treatment of his injuries.
