Pacheco High School kicks off its first homecoming today with a party, and the community is invited.

“It’s our fourth year but our first homecoming because you need alumni to have homecoming,” said Jaquelyn Freitas, Associated Student Body co-director.

Along with a rally during the day, students will be showing Panther pride with purple and black attire.

At 4 p.m., students, staff, parents and the community will take to the school parking lot, at 200 N. Ward Road, for performances by students on the outdoor stage, face painting and popcorn.

Once the JV game begins, at 5 p.m. against Livingston, participants can walk as a group to the stadium, Freitas said.

“Instead of having a parade, we decided to bring the community on the campus,” said Gary Bettencourt, ASB organizer and co-director.

“I love the ’80s” was chosen for this year’s theme. Each class will perform to songs from different ’80s films. This will include “Footloose,” “Ghostbusters,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “The Breakfast Club.”

The freshmen, sophomores and juniors each have a prince and princess representing their class, along with four king and queen candidates representing the senior class. Winners will be announced at halftime.

“We thought about things that we can start doing that would be unique to Pacheco, while still being homecoming,” Bettencourt said about how they went about organizing the event. “We want it to be the best it can be. We want to start things that can grow.”
