STAFF REPORTS

A San Jose man is being accused of hit and run and driving under the influence following an accident that left a car in a ditch, according to the California Highway Patrol.

On Sunday at 11:55 a.m. Sergio Quinones-Primo, 28, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet in the fast lane westbound on Highway 152, west of San Juan Road. Rubalcaba Torres, 66, of Los Banos, was driving a 1995 Honda in the slow lane ahead of Quinones-Primo.

CHP Officer Joel Gonzalez said Quinones-Primo changed lanes and rear-ended the Honda, causing the vehicle to go off the road into an irrigation ditch.

No one was hurt in the incident. However, Quinones-Primo reportedly kept driving. Gonzalez said the CHP stopped Quinones-Primo in Los Banos city limits about 10 miles from the accident scene.

Quinones-Primo was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor hit and run, driving without a license and DUI. Quinones-Primo is being held at the Merced County Jail without bail due to an immigration hold.
