Transplant patient returns home

July 25, 2013

Reports are coming in that the July 19 kidney transplant from Los Banos resident Brandon Kelley to his girlfriend Lindsey Miller was a success.

Kelley and Miller returned home to Los Banos from San Francisco on Tuesday, but were not recovered enough for a follow-up story by the Enterprise.

Miller suffers from polycystic kidney disease, which causes sacs of fluid to grow on the kidneys until they shut down. She has been on dialysis for 10 hours a day since the disease went into full effect in 2011. Miller's mother Tammie Miller also suffers from PKD, and has been on dialysis for a decade while searching for a donor. The disease killed several members of the family.

Doctor William ray of California Pacific Medical Center said a donor's body will increase blood flow to the other kidney, increasing its size so that it can handle the increased function.
