Start of school year is just around corner

The school year kicks off with student orientations starting next week.

Pacheco High will hold Panther Pounce, Los Banos High has Tiger Prowl and Los Banos Valley Community School has a roundup.

Valley community

First up is Los Banos Valley Community School's mandatory student roundups.

They are scheduled from 8 to 11 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. July 29, 30 and 31 and Aug. 1 at the school, 715 W. H St. in Los Banos.

Participants will fill out new enrollment paperwork for the 2013-14 school year and become familiar with the campus and staff.

The entire process should last about 30 minutes, according to a news release. Certain classes will fill up quickly, and students attending roundup will have priority scheduling for their classes, school officials said.

School begins Aug. 19.

School officials said hours for the upcoming school year will remain the same: On regular school days, the bell schedule will be 8 a.m. to 2:07 p.m. On minimum days, the bell schedule will be 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Every Wednesday will be a minimum day.

Panther Pounce

At Pacheco High's Panther Pounce, students will be able to purchase PE clothes, Panther apparel and yearbooks. School pictures will be taken and ID cards issued. Students will be able to visit various tables and sign up for PHS-sponsored clubs. Students will be picking up their schedules on the following dates and times:

Aug. 6 — sophomores with last name beginning with:

A-M: 8 to 9 a.m.

N-Z: 9 to 10 a.m.

All Sophomores will receive a hearing test before picking up their schedules.

Seniors with last name beginning with:

A-M: 10 to 11 a.m.

N-Z: 11 to noon

Aug. 7 — freshmen with last name beginning with:

A-M: 8 to 9 a.m.

N-Z: 9 to 10 a.m.

Juniors with last name beginning with:

A-M: 10 to 11 a.m.

N-Z: 11 to noon

Students are asked to bring completed and signed forms that they receive in their Panther Pounce packet. Students who do not have the purple attendance information sheet completed and signed by a parent or guardian will not be allowed to enter Panther Pounce. Pacheco High School is located at 200 N. Tiger Prowl

Los Banos High School will hold its annual Tiger Prowl on Aug. 6 and 7.

Students will attend Tiger Prowl based on the first letter of their last name:

Freshmen will attend on Aug. 6 between 8 and 10 a.m. Seniors will attend between 10 aa.m. and noon.

Sophomores will attend on Aug. 7 from 8 to 10 a.m Juniors will attend between 10 a.m. and noon.

LBHS dress code will be strictly enforced, school officials said.

Families who have not received their LBHS Tiger Prowl packet in the mail by Aug. 2 should stop by the high school and pick one up between 8 a.m. and noon before Aug. 6. The first day of school is Aug. 13.

"It will be a regular school day with first period beginning at 7:45 a.m. and sixth period ending at 2:55 p.m.," according to a news release. Los Banos High School is located at 1966 Eleventh Street. For more information call (209) 826-6033.

Westside Union

Westside Union Elementary will be having its back to school night from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 13.

Parents will have the opportunity to meet with teachers, tour the campus and obtain information concerning bus and bell schedules and school lunches.
