Authorities arrested a 36-year-old Los Banos woman after a crash that left two other women with major injuries near Snelling last week.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Dianne J. Falasco was speeding on Highway 59 north of Snelling Road in a 2004 Ford Expedition when the crash occurred just before 2:45 p.m. July 12.

Falasco, heading north, drove into the southbound lane and into the path of a 2008 Chrysler 300 driven south by Nellie McGarry, 57, of Merced. McGarry is a former Merced City Council member.

McGarry and a passenger in her car, Rian Lawrence, 38, of Cheyenne, Wyo., suffered major injuries.

Falasco, who is the wife of Los Banos Unified School District Trustee Dominic Falasco, suffered moderate injuries; she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license.

Falasco and Lawrence were taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment; McGarry was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.

The road remained closed for two hours after the crash.
