The public is invited to the heart of Los Banos next month for food, drink and a little shopping.
The Wine Stroll, in its fifth year, is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 2.
The event is designed to get people familiar with shops in downtown.
"We're trying to impress upon people that this is their downtown," said Penny Glick, owner of The Country Duck and The Farm House.
"If you want to improve your downtown, you need to be active," she said. "It's not just up to the shopkeepers or the city. It's up to the people who live in Los Banos."
Thirteen businesses will participate in the evening of wine, hors d'oeuvres, dessert and coffee. Participants will receive a commemorative wine glass.
Health Time owner Kathleen Simas said her store, which sells vitamins and supplements, has participated each year.
"If anything, it's a nice cool cultural event for Los Banos. It gives people the option to do something," Simas said.
Each of the 13 business owners lines up his or her own wine and food offerings. Los Banos Drug Co. cannot offer wine by law because it carries medicine. Many times people who come to the Wine Stroll make the business one of its last stops during the evening and partake in the pie and coffee it offers in place of alcohol.
Simply Unique owner Carol Paradiso said the Wine Stroll attracts residents and people from out of town.
Fleur de Lis owner Leah Costa said the event will be a success just by people showing up and remembering the businesses after the night is over.
Glick said the first two hours of the Wine Stroll will feature KABX radio announcer Dave Luna, who will give away prizes. Anyone visiting all participating businesses will also be entered in a drawing for a basket of wine.
Glick said her experience has been that the public looks forward to the Wine Stroll.
"We still hear it's one of the best social events in the evening," Glick said. "It's working."
