A routine parole compliance search led to drugs being taken off the street and recovery of a stolen credit card, police said.

According to the Los Banos Police Department, officer Marcelino Cortez approached Eduardo Contreras, 24, of Los Banos in the 700 Block of I Street to conduct a parole compliance check at 11:01 a.m. June 11.

Cortez noticed Contreras was attempting to hide a plastic bag that was believed to contain methamphetamine, police said. Police said the officer searched Contreras' belongings and also found a credit card that was reported stolen from a local resident on April 18 in the 2000 block of East Pacheco Boulevard.

Contreras was placed under arrest on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property and violation of the conditions of parole.

"We are still investigating whether the suspect was able to use the card but we are glad it has been recovered," Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr. said.

Contreras is being held without bail at the John Latorraca Correctional Facility.
