The Los Banos Tomato Festival committee has announced a new event at the third annual Los Banos Tomato Festival Oct. 5-6.

Art of the Tomato, sponsored by The Frame Shop in Los Banos, will be featured in the exhibit building at the Los Banos Fairgrounds. There will be six contests and within those will be several categories and groups.

The age groups range from preschool to adults. The new photography contest has four categories: Novice, Amateur, Professional and Special Effects and Techniques.

For those with a green thumb, a Grow a Tomato contest is available. There will also be an art contest for adults and juniors to compete for the best in chalk, pastels, finger paints or tissue art.

In the adult and junior crafts there will be holiday decorations, paper mache, cards, scrapbooking and wood making. The committee has also added quilting for individuals and groups.

All entries for each category must be submitted by Sept. 16 to the Los Banos Chamber of Commerce office at 503 J St. For questions call the chamber office at (209) 826-2495. All entries must be tomato-themed. Entry forms are available online,
