Crash on I5 injures two

June 11, 2013

A Hollywood couple was injured Monday in a crash on Interstate 5, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Solomon Smith, 37, and Lynette King-Smith, 40, were traveling southbound on the interstate, north of Highway 165, in a 2005 Jeep, CHP said.

Smith veered the Jeep to the left to avoid something in the road and lost control of the vehicle around 5:13 p.m. The Jeep overturned in the median multiple times down a dirt embankment, CHP said.

Once the Jeep landed at the bottom of the embankment, CHP said, debris struck a 2013 BMW driven northbound on Interstate 5 by 31-year-old Todd Schram of Miami.

Schram did not receive any injuries in the crash.

King-Smith suffered major injuries and was taken by ambulance to Los Banos Memorial Hospital, CHP said. Smith sustained minor injuries.
