A team of Los Banos residents is the champion of the Twilighters League, a senior bowling league at Bellevue Bowl in Atwater.
The Unpredictables, made up of Claire Biehl, Rose Galli and Helen and Frank Gallichio, took first in the seven-team league by a single point, with 72 points won to the second-place team's 71.
Galli had the second-highest average among the women in the league at 148.96, and posted the top scratch game (224), handicap game (285) and handicap series (746), and the second-best scratch series (563). Frank Gallichio notched the second-best handicap series among men (740) and third-best handicap game (277).
Helen Gallichio said three members of the team -- herself, Frank Gallichio and Biehl -- started playing together in 1954 in a Mr. and Mrs. league for couples at Los Banos Bowl.
When that bowling alley closed, the team moved to the Gustine Bowling Center. When that closed, they took the roadshow to the alley at Castle Lanes in Atwater, which also closed, leading them to their current home at Bellevue.
Other Los Banos bowlers in the league include Dominic and Maria Pugliese, Art and Judy Shulke and Barbara Souza.
A few Dos Palos residents bowl there as well: Lavonne and Jim Baker, Joann and Leroy Baker and Margaret Shaw.
The rest of the league hails from Atwater and Merced.
