July completion seen for Arco minimarket, McDonald's eatery

Los Banosans should be able purchase gas and a bite to eat along Badger Flat Road by mid-summer.

Community Development Director Paula Fitzgerald said judging by the progress being made, she expects a project involving an Arco gas station and mini-market and the relocation of a McDonald's to be completed by July.

The project, on the northwest corner of Badger Flat Road and Pacheco Boulevard, was approved in 2011. For the past few months, a portion of the intersection has seen steady construction as workers installed a storm main and electrical infrastructure

"They've done quite a bit of work on the site," Fitzgerald said.

"Since it was an annexation, it was like bring-your-own infrastructure."

The project also includes a widening of the north side of Highway 152.

The timing of the project was expected to be an issue because the McDonald's restaurant in the 900 block of I Street had a lease that was scheduled to expire last year. The restaurant owner decided to move the franchise because the owner of the building did not make requested upgrades.

Fitzgerald said the new structure that will house McDonald's is being constructed as a generic building. She said McDonald's will be responsible for the improvements to it that will distinguish it as one of the fast-food chain's restaurants.

The mini-market will include 18 gas pumps.

The project will also bring in $62,000 for Measure P, a half-cent sales tax that goes toward the needs of the police and fire departments.
