A suspect in a slaughterhouse burglary was sniffed out like a T-bone steak Friday.

According to the Los Banos Police Department, an alarm went off at 11:06 p.m. at the Los Banos Abattoir Co. on the 1300 block of West Pacheco Boulevard.

Officers Ramon McDonald and Kristifer Hew responded to an alarm at the business and found evidence suggesting a burglary was in progress, police said.

The officers discovered an open window and subsequently learned someone was hiding inside the office area attic.

Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr. said Los Banos police requested assistance from Dos Palos Police Chief Barry Mann and his K-9 partner Scar. Police said the K-9 located 22-year-old Mario Bellinghausen of Los Banos hiding in the attic.

"When he refused to come out, K-9 Scar was used to locate him. Bellinghausen surrendered before the K-9 was released," said Sgt. Jason Hedden.

Bellinghausen was arrested on suspicion of burglary, vandalism and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Los Banos Jail and subsequently released after posting $15,000 bail.
