Apply for scholarships

The Merced College Foundation has opened its application period for scholarship awards for the 2013-14 academic year. More than $125,000 is available for students attending Merced College and transferring to a four-year institution or those entering in the fall 2013 semester as freshmen. Black Oak Casino bus trip planned

The Native Daughters of the Golden West are sponsoring a bus trip to Black Oak Casino in Tuolumne on Saturday. Tickets are $25 per person, and there will be pick-ups in Atwater and Merced. Proceeds will go to the organization's scholarship fund. Call (209) 722-0349.

PAL softball opening ceremonies tonight

Los Banos PAL girls softball opening ceremonies are at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Pacheco High. Coaches and players should be in the cafeteria at 6 p.m. No cleats are allowed in the gym, wear tennis shoes.
