Hydrocats merging

The Los Banos Hydrocats are merging with the Merced Skimmers into one USA Swim team. The merger allows swimmers to practice in Los Banos while competing with the Skimmers in year-round meets.

In addition to a year round USA competitive swimming program, Skimmers will also be offering a USA seasonal recreation five counties swimming program beginning in April. The season will run April through mid-July and will include approximately 5-6 meets, including championships.

Team registration will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 23 in front of the pool at Pacheco School. Sign-ups are ongoing as it is a year round team.

OLF wins league

Our Lady of Fatima's eighth-grade girls basketball team completed a sweep of league play, finishing 10-0. The team also went 10-0 its seventh-grade year, for a 20-game league winning streak.

"We played a lot of bigger schools. We only have 16 girls in that whole 8th-grade class," coach Randy Bourbon said. "They had to deal with me, but I guess it was worth it."

Battle ropes it up

Los Banos fourth-grader Allen Battle attended the Northern California Junior Rodeo Association Clinic and Jackpot last weekend in Ceres, competing in calf-riding and learning how to tie goats.

Battle is a junior this year in NorCal Junior Rodeo, and plans to ride calves and compete in goat-tying on the circuit this year.

PHS softball clinic

Pacheco High Softball is hosting its second annual youth clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 10. Each player will receive instruction from varsity coaches and players, as well as a T-shirt and lunch.

Sign up forms can be found at the front desk at PHS or online at www.pachecosoftball.weebly.com under the Youth Clinic tab.

Sign ups will take place all the way up to the day of the clinic. Cost is $25.

Hold 'em or fold 'em

The Los Banos Sports Boosters present the second annual Hold 'em or Fold 'em Poker Tournament March 10, starting at 1 p.m. at the Los Banos Sportmens Club. Proceeds benefit the LBHS boys golf program.

A $75 donation gets a seat and a chance to win a flat screen TV. Two re-buys are allowed, as well as an add-on for another $25. Top prize is a $1,000 Visa gift card, which can be used anywhere Visa is accepted.

Little League opening ceremonies

Opening Day ceremonies for Los Banos Little League is tentatively scheduled for 1 p.m. March 9 on Field 2 of Colorado Park.

LB Little League was founded in 1964, and will celebrate its 49th Anniversary of providing a youth baseball program in the Los Banos community. This event draws hundreds of families, friends and residents of Los Banos and surrounding areas for a ceremony that kicks off the baseball season.
