Los Banos FFA members participated in two public speaking competitions in as many weeks.

"All members did an outstanding job," according to a release from the FFA.

The Jan. 24 contest was organized by the Lions Club. The five- to 10-minute speeches focused on the topic "How do we create and keep jobs in America?"

In first place was senior Chester Amaral, second place went to junior Kaitlyn Alanis and third place went to senior Mattea Clarke. Chester advances to the district level later this month.

The second contest, held by the Los Banos Rotary Club, was Jan. 29. The topic was "Peace through service."

First place was awarded to Mattea, second went to junior Colleen Allen, third place went to senior Haley Simmons and fourth went to Kaitlyn.

Mattea will be moving to the next round next month.
