Enterprise garners 2 awards
Staff Reports
The Los Banos Enterprise picked up two awards for journalism excellence from parent company McClatchy.
The McClatchy Co., owner of the Los Banos Enterprise and Merced Sun-Star, named 10 President's Awards in the community newspaper division Thursday, including a first- and second-place for the Enterprise.
Sports reporter David Witte's April 27 story "Good Sports" took first place in the sports category.
"The paper won first place in the Sports category for its moving account of the first at-bat of the season for Cesar Orozco, an autistic, 18-year-old member of his high school baseball team who never plays but always practices hard and cheers the loudest for his teammates," according to a McClatchy news release.
Publisher Gene Lieb's entries in the photography category, "Tigers vs. Tigers" and "Broncos Corralled," won a second-place nod. Both photos were taken during 2012 Los Banos High School football games.
