Three people were injured Sunday in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 5 near Los Banos, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Juan Manuel Cervantes-Baneles, 38, of San Jose, was northbound on I-5 just south of Highway 165, when the Chrysler PT Cruiser he was driving drifted left into the median, said officer Matt Pinheiro.

The vehicle overturned multiple times, before coming to rest on its roof, he said.

Pinheiro said drugs and alcohol weren't a factor and it was unclear why the car drifted. "(Cervantes-Baneles) wasn't able to give a statement at the scene due to his injuries," Pinheiro said.

The driver was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries after the 3:40 p.m. crash. Passengers Virginia Cervantes, 58, and Bryan Cervantes, 10, both of San Jose, suffered minor injuries. The woman was taken to Memorial Hospital Los Banos and the boy was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
