Work on Badger Flat, Pacheco signals the arrival of mini-mart

Dirt should be turning in the next few days for a project that will relocate a McDonald's and bring an Arco gas station and mini-market.

The northwest corner of Badger Flat Road and Pacheco Boulevard is slated to have a 2,900-square-foot am-pm minimarket and a 3,900-square-foot McDonald's. The project, which was approved by the Planning Commission in 2011, is slated for completion by May.

"There will be infrastructure installation in the next week. It'll take five or six weeks," Community Development Director Paula Fitzgerald said.

She said a storm main will be placed on the west side of the road near Pacheco Boulevard, effectively closing down a portion of Badger Flat Road. The project will likely also include widening the north side of Highway 152. At the same time, construction of am-pm minimarket and McDonald's will begin.

The timing of the project was expected to be an issue because the McDonald's restaurant in the 900 block of I Street had a lease that was scheduled to expire last year. The restaurant owner decided to move the franchise because the owner of the building did not make requested upgrades.

It will be about three months before the project is complete.

"It all depends on how much it rains," Fitzgerald said, "but I don't think it will be too much further behind."
