Sports Briefs: K of C free throw, adult hoops and more

Boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the 2013 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship Jan. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Los Banos Community Center.

The competition is sponsored annually, with winner progressing through local, district and state competitions. All local contestants are recognized for their participation.

Competitors can sign up the day of the event, but are required to furnish proof of age, such as a birth certificate and written parental consent. Entry forms are available at the Los Banos Community Center or by contacting Joe Cox at (209) 826-4318.

Adult basketball

Feb. 1 is the last day to sign up for the City of Los Banos Recreation Division's adult basketball winter league.

Games are from Feb. 10 to March 31 at the Los Banos Community Center. Cost is $400 per team.

PAL softball signups

The Los Banos Police Activities League softball program is accepting signups from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Police Annex at 535 J Street, across from City Hall.

Cost is $35, plus a last-day sign-up fee. Coaches, volunteers and umpires are needed as well. Players must bring a birth certificate, unless you played in 2012.

Junior Panthers ball

Junior Panthers Basketball is taking sign-ups for its camp and league open to boys and girls grades K through 8. Sign-ups will be taken during city parks and rec basketball at Pacheco High.

Camp participants will receive a ball and a T-shirt, plus a week of hoops instruction. League participants will receive a reversible jersey. League games will be played at Pacheco High on Monday and Wednesday evenings throughout June and July.

Premiership soccer

The Premiership Soccer League is currently registering new men's soccer teams for the upcoming season. The league covers Merced, Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Madera and Fresno counties.

League play starts Feb. 17 and plays on Sundays. Each team has a maximum roster size of 20, and players must be 18 or older.

Cost is $300 initiation fee for new teams and $200 registration fee. The next league meeting is 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 6 at Mountain Mike's Pizza in Livingston.
