Tough week dealt to Los Banos basketball
By David Witte / firstname.lastname@example.org
Los Banos boys basketball dropped its Wednesday game 64-54 to Ceres after falling behind early.
Ceres jumped out to an 18-7 lead in the first quarter and maintained a double-digit advantage through most of the game. The Tigers made it respectable with a second-half surge, but the closest they got was 7 points -- 42-35 on a Jourdon Grissom 3-pointer with 3 minutes left in the third quarter.
Ceres stretched the lead again, and again Los Banos closed to less than 10 when Joel Marshall scored a put-back to make it 60-51 Ceres with 1:30 remaining.
Marshall scored 20 points for the Tigers, and Delvonte Moore added 12. Ceres' James Pernetti led all scorers with 24.
Los Banos High dropped to 1-3 in league play after a 41-40 loss to Ceres on Tuesday. The loss came days after LB upset Central Catholic 52-44. The Tigers played the CC game without coach Danny Crosby, who was ejected from the previous game.
Jacquelin Arretche led the Tigers with 18 points in the Ceres loss, while Alexis Barcellos scored 17 in the win over Central Catholic.
Meanwhile, Pacheco fell to 0-4 in WAC play with a 44-20 loss to Central Valley on Tuesday and a 57-34 loss to Livingston last Thursday.
