Chilly temperatures but sunny skies are expected for much of the next two weeks.

"We start out the year with little precipitation in the forecast," said Drew Peterson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento.

After a stormy Christmas, the first days of the new year promise favorable conditions for travelers.

"It should be a good week for travel as long as you're not headed too far up north," Peterson said.

Temperatures are expected to dip down into the low 30s overnight for the next few days, getting slightly warmer by the weekend. Highs will be in the mid- to upper 50s.
