Los Banos Community Briefs: Holiday closures
Some city services closed for holiday
Los Banos city offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday in observance of the holidays.
Uniformed police operations and emergency dispatch will operate as usual, but the Los Banos Police Department front office, 945 Fifth St., will be closed Monday and Tuesday. All emergencies should be directed to 911, but other calls should go to (209) 827-7070.
City firefighters will be on duty through the holidays, but the Fire Station No. 1 front office, 333 Seventh St., will be closed Monday and Tuesday. All emergencies should be directed to 911, but other calls should go to (209) 827-7025.
Allied Waste does not plan a designated Christmas tree pickup. Natural trees must be cut into small enough pieces to fit into the green waste can. Flocked trees, which are covered in artificial snow, must be cut up and put in the gray trash bin.
Since New Year's Day falls on a Tuesday, garbage pickup is pushed back one day to Wednesday and each subsequent day through Saturday.
Galgiani will lead agriculture committee
State Sen. Cathleen Galgiani, D-Stockton, will be chairwoman of her chamber's agriculture committee in the 2013-14 session, President pro tempore Darrell Steinberg announced.
Galgiani, whose district includes part of Stanislaus County, led the Assembly Agriculture Committee before her election to the Senate last month.
She is the only senator from the Northern San Joaquin Valley to preside over a committee.
