The execution of a search warrant at a home near an elementary school last week led to the arrest of a man on drug offenses.
Officers headed by Sgt. Ivan Mendez served a narcotics search warrant at a residence in the 600 Block of Overland Ave. at 7:10 a.m. Dec. 14.
Officers recovered a digital scale, handgun ammunition and a bullet-proof vest. Police said they located Juan Gabriel Ruvalcaba-Medina, 29, of Los Banos, allegedly attempting to flush several bags of methamphetamine down the toilet. Police said 1.5 ounces of methamphetamine was recovered.
Ruvalcaba-Medina was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, maintaining a residence where drugs are used and sold, selling narcotics within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of body armor by a convicted felon, destruction of evidence and violation of probation conditions.
Ruvalcaba-Medina's residence is blocks from Lorena Falasco Elementary School.
"We learned of this illicit activity and realized how close it was to one of our schools," said Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr. "Our officers did a great job removing this problem and we hope the residents and children in that neighborhood can live a little easier."
Ruvalcaba-Medina is being held without bail at the John Latorraca Correctional Facility.
