Los Banos High senior Michelle Gutierrez and her sister Priscilla, a 2011 LBHS graduate, don't get the chance to shoot hoops against each other that often. They each have busy lives.

But the girls basketball alumni game Nov. 21 gave them the opportunity in a 58-54 alumni win.

"I appreciate all her work," Priscilla said. "I'm out here tired just running up and down once, and she's out here running all the time."

Priscilla scored 11 in the alumni win, while Michelle scored 6. The sisters faced each other a few times with the ball.

"I think we did better in different areas," Michelle said. "She did better offensively and I did better defensively. It's always been that way."

Now, of course, begins the trash talk, which Michelle said will start from an unexpected source.

"My dad will instigate it," she said.

Sharpshooting guard Alexis Barcellos led the current Tigers with 23 points.

Alumni beats boys

The Los Banos boys basketball team had a rougher go of it after its alumni jumped out to a 16-2 lead, but fought back late in a 96-80 loss.

Isaac Ruiz led the current Tigers with 24 points (including four 3-pointers). Jourdon Grissom and Jose Delacruz each added 15, while Tyler Betteridge dropped a pair of 3-pointers on his way to 12 points.

The alumni led 77-39 after three quarters, but when they relaxed, LB opened with 41 points in the quarter.

Real action begins

After the Los Banos girls defeated Orestimba 55-44 in the Foundation Game on Monday (a sanctioned, scored scrimmage), the Tigers officially opened the season with a 46-45 home win over Merced Wednesday night. Jacquelin Arretche and Savannah Peña each scored 13 as LB coasted after a 17-point second quarter.

The Los Banos boys opened the season with a 67-28 loss to Chowchilla on Tuesday.

Across town, Pacheco's girls opened the season Tuesday with a 45-41 loss to Chowchilla. Geor-cion Hymes led the Panthers with 17 points in the loss. The Pacheco boys began play Wednesday with a loss to Kimball.
