Police nab 16 in probation, parole sweep

Local and county authorities arrested 16 people during a probation and parole sweep Tuesday in Los Banos.

With the assistance of the Merced County Probation Department, Merced County Sheriff’s Office and Merced County Child Protective Services, the Los Banos Police Department conducted a compliance sweep of locals on Merced County Probation and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Parole.

Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr. said 16 adults were placed under arrest on suspicion of a variety of acts, which included drug possession, violations of probation or parole conditions and firearm possession.

“This operation was well planned by officer Jesus Parras and we are glad to report that two more guns have now been taken off the streets of Los Banos,” Reyna said, in a press release. “We are grateful to the agencies which assisted us in this successful operation.”

The following suspects arrested during the operation are in custody at the John Latorraca Correctional Facility:

-Jason Timoteo, 39, arrested on suspicion of violation of probation, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a short-barreled shotgun, committing a felony while on bail from a prior criminal offense and possession of a controlled substance while armed.

-Kevin Lemos, 34, arrested on suspicion of violation of AB-109 probation.

-Aaron Avila, 24, arrested on suspicion of violation of probation and an outstanding warrant.

-Frank Baffuna, 35, arrested on suspicion of violation of probation, possession of a controlled substance, felon in possession of a firearm.

-Lance Darnell, 52, arrested on suspicion of violation possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of probation.

-Arrested on suspicion of violation of probation were Steven Parra, 45; Adan Aldama, 23; Dina Cortez, 36; Tony Mercado, 38; Rosendo Sanchez, 18; Jose Munguia, 23; Michael Mirabal, 25; Julian Robles, 26; and Dustin Flint, 33.

The following suspects arrested during the operation and are in custody at the Merced Main Jail:

-Arrested on suspicion of violation of probation were Varnell McFadden, 22, and Marcos Esquivel, 21.
