A teen was arrested Monday for possession of a loaded handgun, police said.

Los Banos police officer Jesus Parras stopped a 16-year-old male on a bicycle around 12:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Olivewood Drive and discovered a loaded handgun under his clothes.

Police said the teen was on probation with Merced County.

"I suppose we will never know what the suspect intended to do with this gun, but we are glad he no longer has it," said Cmdr. Ray Reyna.

The juvenile was transported to the Merced County Juvenile Hall Facility on suspicion of possession of a concealed firearm, possession of a loaded firearm and being a minor in possession of a firearm. As a minor, he is not eligible for bail.
