Chamber of Commerce welcomes newest member of the organization

September 29, 2012

The Los Banos Chamber of Commerce has singlehandedly brought the free community Fourth of July Fireworks show since 1997. For some, this annual event offers the opportunity to get together with friends and family and celebrate our nation's independence. For others it brings a little bit of nostalgia and takes us back to when Los Banos was a smaller community and the pace was a bit slower.

This was initially funded through the formation of the Patriots Club, which was a group of local business people and citizens who cared enough about this event to fund it through donations of $100 a year.

In 2005, the city started allowing the sale of Safe and Sane fireworks in Los Banos and the Chamber was granted a booth with the net proceeds going towards funding the show.

As our economy started changing, so did our donations and the sales at the fireworks booth. Coming up short the last two years has put this show in jeopardy. Not willing to give up without a fight, a committee was formed to "Save Our Show," and plans were put into place to find creative ways to make sure that 2013 is not the last fireworks show in Los Banos.

Again we are offering businesses, clubs and private citizens the opportunity to join with us in raising the necessary funds to keep this great community event going. You can become a member of the Patriots Club with a donation of $100, which can be paid in one installment or over the next 10 months. You can also make a donation of any amount, at any time, to the Chamber Independence Day fund. Each month we will be listing our donors on the Chamber's page in the Enterprise and tracking where we are in donations.

During the next few months you will begin seeing some fun and unique events that will help us achieve our goal of bringing not only a fireworks show but a great fireworks show.

For more information on how to make a donation or how to get involved, contact the Chamber office at (209) 826-2495.

The current Patriots are:

Golden State Gunslingers, Mike Johnson, Jim and Sandy Lemas.
