Sports roundup
STAFF REPORTS
Pacheco's Ryan Salcido set a personal best in the 3-mile run with a 16-minute, 49-second dash at Wednesday's cross country dual meet against Livingston.
But it wasn't good enough for first place -- Livingston's Izzak Mireles took that honor with a 16:23 as Livingston sprinted to a 19-43 win. Livingston took slots 3 through 7 before Samuel Regalado came in at 18:50.
Pacheco's girls team came closer, but fell 23-36 as Livingston took the top two spots.
The same day, Los Banos' girls defeated Ceres 26-29 while the boys came up short, 25-33.
Soccer
Pacheco's soccer team opened its Western Athletic Conference campaign with a 2-0 win over Central Catholic on Sept. 13, but followed that up with a 6-1 loss to Ceres on Tuesday.
JV football
Los Banos High's JV football team took full advantage of running back Jordan Sams (younger brother of varsity star James Sams) in a 19-6 victory over Dos Palos on Friday.
Sams scored on touchdown runs of 3 yards in the first quarter and 7 yards in the fourth quarter, and quarterback Loggan Pimentel added a screen pass to David Walker in the third quarter that went for a 63-yard score.
DP's only score came on a 5-yard Ruben Hands run early in the fourth quarter.
