Tennis teams back for more league play
By David Witte / sports@losbanosenterprise.com
Pacheco and Los Banos' tennis teams returned to league play Tuesday, with Pacheco earning two wins in a 7-2 team loss to Ceres and Los Banos winning 9-0 over Patterson.
LB's win came a few days after it emerged unscathed from its toughest test so far this season -- a 5-0 team performance at the California Girls Tennis Classic during the weekend in Fresno.
Los Banos moved up a division this year, from 5 to 4, and defeated Valley Christian 4-2, Los Alamitos 6-0, and Bishop O'Dowd 4-2 in pool play.
LB followed that with a 5-1 win over Buckley and a 4-2 win over Clovis in the Division 4 championship.
LB's No. 3 singles player Nicole Marchese was undefeated individually at the tournament, going 5-0, as did the Tigers' No. 3 doubles team of Bianca Soares and Kelly Younce. No. 1 singles player Alexis Barcellos went 4-1, with her only loss coming 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) to Bishop O'Dowd's Jenna Deturk. No. 2 doubles player Christina Soares went 3-2, as did the No. 1 doubles team of Tiffany Liu and Jacquelin Arretche and the No. 2 doubles team of Monique Arretche and Elena Erreca.
Both teams hit the road again on Tuesday, with Los Banos heading to Ceres (which will feature the much-anticipated match between Barcellos and Ceres No. 1 Marifer Ochoa), while Pacheco takes on Central Valley.
