Vet ceremony planned Tuesday

Local veterans plan to recognize Patriot Day next week with events in town.

The American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2487 plan a ceremony at Volta Elementary School, 24307 W. Ingomar Grade, at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday. The veterans will raise the American flag and play taps.

A Volta Elementary teacher will discuss the meaning of Patriot Day, which recognizes the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center in New York.

Early that morning, the veteran groups will also place American flags in front of residences and businesses as part of their flag service, a fundraiser for the groups.
