Traffic stop leads to arrest

A traffic stop led to the arrest of a parolee allegedly in possession of a gun Wednesday.

Officer Marcelino Cortez stopped a vehicle in the 1200 block of Seventh Street for a traffic violation at 11:34 a.m.

Police said Cortez discovered the driver, James Lonnon, 30, of Los Banos, was on parole. A compliance search was condected and police reportedly found a bag with a small amount of methamphetamine. Police said a handgun was also found near the vehicle's driver seat. The serial number on the gun was grinded off, police said.

Lonnon was placed under arrest on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of illegal drugs. He is being held at the Los Banos Jail without bail.
