47-year-old woman killed in Los Banos crash
A 47-year-old female passenger was killed Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Los Banos, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The driver, Monica Calderon of Los Banos, received minor injuries. The Merced County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as Alicia Calderon of Los Banos.
The victim was the driver's mother, according to the CHP.
Around 6 a.m. the 2003 GMC was traveling northbound on Delta Road, a dirt road north of Henry Miller Road, at an unknown speed. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a power pole on the east shoulder of Delta Road.
The GMC continued eastbound until it overturned into an irrigation canal on the east shoulder. The victim sustained fatal injuries due to the crash, CHP said.
DUI isn't believed to be a factor in the crash.
