Four suspected gang members were arrested Thursday in connection with an April 10 shooting.
Gabriel Chavez Zamora, 18, Pablo Aguayo, 19, and two 15-year-olds were taken into custody during the execution of a search warrant on the 700 block of Sandhill Crane at 11:15 a.m.
The juveniles were taken to Merced County Juvenile Hall and Zamora and Aguayo to the Los Banos jail. Aguayo is being held on $50,000 bail and Zamora has a $100,000 bond.
Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr. said the four males drove to the residence as police were searching the home. A gun was found during a susbsequent search of the vehicle the suspects were in.
Police arrested all four males on suspicion of possession of a firearm and participation in a criminal street gang. Zamora is also facing allegations of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Zamora and one of the 15-year-olds were also arrested on suspicion of assault with a firearm. Reyna said police believe the two were directly involved in shooting the victim during the April incident.
On April 10 a man was shot in the leg on the 600 block of Third Street near G Street.
Witnesses reportedly told police a male with short hair fled the area southbound on Fourth Street, in a white Chevrolet sedan. Two other vehicles involved in the incident were described as a silver Mercedes Benz and a maroon Toyota. Witnesses reported seeing a male in the Toyota with a handgun, police said.
Six suspects were detained at a residence on the 700 block of H Street within 45 minutes of the shootiing. Police obtained a search warrant and found a loaded handgun, about 5.2 ounces of methamphetamine, digital scales, and about $13,000 at the home.
The day of the shooting, Robert Aragon, 19, and Brandon Torres, 20, both of Los Banos, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale. Torres was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance while possessing a firearm.
